Ask first.īut is there any way I can delete useless files without downloading any thing? There are many examples of people deleting files outside their home folder, or renaming files, or changing the ownership or file permissions, and then their Mac stops running. If you think you have found something to delete outside your home folder, it would be best to ask first before deleting. The swapfiles get deleted on reboot, and the sleep image is just going to be created again when you put your Mac to sleep.

I will point out that you will find some very large files in private -> var -> vm (these are the Mac OS X virtual memory paging files (swapfiles) and where Mac OS X stores the copy of RAM when your Mac is put to sleep). See the following article if you want to run it as rootĭO NOT delete files in your Home Folder -> Library tree as there are things like your iPhone backups, your email messages, your application preferences, etc… If you think you have found something in your Home Folder -> Library that can be deleted, you should ask first.ĭO NOT delete files outside your home folder, as you may end up deleting something essential to Mac OS X, and turn your Mac into an expensive “Door Stop”. I do apologise for my lack of reply to this so far but having a new baby my photography time has dwindled but this problem is still on my current to do list so although 9 months my seem like a while it is still 'current' for me and when I ever get time to look into this more thoroughly I will report my findings. When using OmniDiskSweeper, or any utility that shows all your files. Maybe they have replied in case other people with similar issues find the thread to give as much help as possible. Hmm one might also wonder why you would bother to make that reply. I'm not sure why anyone would bother to reply to a question the OP asked 9 months ago, and without ever returning to the thread. I suspect that the program that you are running has a limit on the RAM to run on your computer.

Then I discovered that PS 3 was only assigned to run off 3G of RAM Memory, I expanded it in the settings and no problems since. I up graded the Ram to 16G, with no success.

PS3 would crash saying there wasen't enough Memory. I was using PS CS3 and Canon Digital Photo Professional 4.

I had had a similar problem with my MacBook Pro Using OSX 10.8.5 2.9 i7 processor and 8G of ram. If that is the case and you are committed to the Canon program you actually need to reboot when that happens. That kind of thing was a real problem in earlier versions of browsers-it is one of things browsers now tout as their advantage-and in many programs (including earlier versions of Word). If you only see problems deep into a run of the Canon program and in no other situation then I would suspect suboptimal programming in the Canon program-it is not releasing resources when you close a file. Card problems are likely more common than camera problems fortunately. It is possible there are errors written into those files by the camera or due to bad sectors in the memory card. If particular out of camera raw files are causing a problem every time you run them through the Canon program try a different program-you can even download PS free to try- to see if they cause problems there.

Something running in the background can cause what you see, even occasionally anti-virus programs (they have their issues too). If you have not used MB it is safe to delete anything it finds. It might be helpful to run Malwarebytes to see if it identifies any PUPs running in the background.

Windows has improved greatly in this regard over the years so if software related it is not likely due to Windows itself. Insufficient memory rarely refers to problems with physical ram but to issues the OS has with keeping track of resources given to a program or itself.
